Mission
Statement:
The
Hoboken Shelter’s mission is to provide a safe haven for
homeless men and women.
Goal:
The Hoboken Shelter’s goal is to assist homeless men
and women in developing the skills needed to gain employment,
achieve independence, and re-integrate into the community.
Brief Description:
The Hoboken Shelter takes a holistic approach to
helping people in need, rather than focusing only on food and
shelter needs. It shelters 50 people nightly, serves 200 meals
daily, and provides such support services as food, shelter, case
management, counseling, job and life skills training, creative
arts workshops, and emergency homelessness prevention grants.

Since
1982, The Hoboken Shelter has been the only
facility handling the needs of the adult homeless population of
Hoboken and its environs. Since its inception, the shelter has
served more than 1,000,000 meals and provided shelter to more
than 300,000 men and women and has also referred thousands of
individuals to permanent housing as well as to alcohol and drug
treatment programs through an extensive network of linkages with
other organizations.
The Hoboken Shelter
is owned and operated by Communities of Faith for Housing, Inc.,
a non-profit housing corporation made up of ministers and laity
from houses of worship, as well as several Hoboken community
leaders.
When the shelter began, there were several groups that helped provide the evening meal. These groups have been with us since that time. Over the years we have witnessed their marvelous commitment. We would like to acknowledge their growth and dedication:
